After a great day visiting the beautiful Humboldt Redwoods National Park, my family was looking for a hotel right on the Ocean where our kids could explore the beach and tidal pools. The Oceanfront Inn in Shelter Cove exceeded all of our expectations!

The room was very clean, simple and comfortable. Beds were very comfy, and the fridge and microwave came in handy with dinner leftovers and for breakfast. We spent the night with the sliding balcony door slightly opened which let in the sounds of the ocean waves crashing on the shore.

The view from our balcony was spectacular! We enjoyed several hours on the beach with the kids walking along tidal pools and the rocks on the shore. Many great memories were made as this was our kids' (aged 9, 6, and 1) first ever trip to the ocean.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is looking to stay at a simple, clean, oceanfront hotel!

My wife and I flew into Shelter Cove as the first stop on a week long getaway through the wine country of Sonoma Valley. We tied the plane down not 250 yards from the Oceanfront Inn and walked over. We were greeted very warmly and when we entered our room we fell in love with the place. The room was simple and very clean, with a King size bed which was the most comfortable we experienced on the whole journey. Stepping out onto the balcony we were treated to an expansive view of the rugged coast, and a neat little inlet right at our feet. Sea Otters were cavorting around in the water, and just off shore we saw Grey whales passing by on their way North.  …if you are looking for a laid back spot to unwind, this is it!!

Indeed this Boutique Hotel was seated right on the edge of the Pacific Ocean. The rooms are very modern and clean. Very quiet place with a restaurant located on the first floor. …   We kept our sliding door open so we could hear the waves crashing. All rooms face the ocean.

Wow!  Totally awesome escape.  Great big room with a view!”

Sitting on a comfy bed, at the Oceanfront Inn, listening and watching the sounds of the ocean, it's hard to imagine that life gets more perfect than this. It probably doesn't. Good, clean, quality accommodation. Giant jacuzzi, fridge, microwave, bath, 42 inch TV, armchairs, table and chairs, and a balcony to sit and watch the ocean....perfect. A good tasty. A good tasty restaurant with a great selection of food and wine.... The only sour note is that I have to leave here, and just booked for one night...

This Little hole in the wall is adorable! Beautiful views and CLEAN rooms. Great food down stairs too! Would definitely stay again, next time we will stay more than 1 night and come during whale season.

Shelter Cove is worth the drive across beautiful, but winding hill roads. A quiet village with spectacular scenery. The hotel was super, really friendly check in, the room was large, comfortable, very well equipped and the view from the balcony was mind blowing.

Friends had recommended this place and it was everything and more than they had described. Yes it is difficult to get to, but that's why it's called " The lost coast" and I would imagine what keeps its pristine beauty intact.... ....I wish I could have stayed for a week....I went to sleep to the sounds of crashing waves and surf and slept like a log to wake to a beautiful sunrise. Heaven!! I was so entranced with the oceanfront to the North, the black beaches and sheer beauty I didn't even find the cove to the South until the end of the 2nd day. Here was why it's called Shelter Cove!

Recently stayed here one night. A bit out of our way but the location is stunning. The room was huge, very comfortable and clean. The balcony was great overlooking the ocean. Even though we had a foggy evening, the view was spectacular. Enjoyed dinner at the restaurant - excellent meal.

I don't think this place could have been any nicer! The rooms were modern clean and perfect with a sliding glass door to a small balcony that you could leave open and hear the sea all night. You could not be any closer to the beach without being in a boat.... We were able to have a nice fire on the beach, and sit out and see the stars and enjoy a few cocktails and conversation. .. Shelter Cove Oceanfront Inn is an absolutely gorgeous little hidden gem. Shhhhhhhhhh.

The room was clean and very comfortable and the price for a room with two queen beds was a very reasonable. But the view is what makes this place worth the drive to Shelter Cove!!! The property is right next to the beach and you can sit on your private balcony and watch the waves break and the seals play right below you. And there's stairs down to the beach if you want to do some beach-combing.

The Oceanfront Inn at Shelter Cove Ca. is a great place for a romantic getaway. The rooms are newly remodeled and clean. The view from our room was spectacular! Every room has a balcony that overlooks the ocean. We actually fell asleep to the sound of the surf crashing onto the beach below our room. The Inn also has a restaurant with great dinners at a reasonable price.
Phil is a great host, very nice and helpful too.

Stayed at the Oceanfront Inn June 13,2012 and loved the beauty and stunning coast view. Had the most restful sleep listening to the ocean and star gazing of my life.

The views in Shelter Cove are beyond compare, the coast is stunning, especially the black sand beach. Staying at the Oceanfront Inn is a great homebase while visiting. I stayed in the Captain's Quarters and highly recommend it. Not only is the room large and spacious, it has the largest hot tub/jacuzzi I have seen in a hotel room. Plus, the views from the balcony is amazing. I had my sliding glass door open most of the night so I could hear the crashing waves. And, you can easily walk to the beach from the Ocean Front Inn, so the location is great and I felt as though the Inn offered a great value as well.

We stayed in a suite at Shelter Cove Oceanfront Inn for four blissful nights. The suite was equipped with a kitchen, sitting room and bedroom, located on the first floor with a fantastic ocean view, fireplace, terrace and small yard. Friends stayed in other rooms in the hotel, all with equally spectacular views and accommodations. Beds were deluxe, with plush down comforters and pillows. Every night we were lulled to sleep by the surf pounding against the rocks and the sand. Highly recommend this Inn and a hike along the Lost Coast.

Our third floor sliding glass door was rarely closed. We woke up to the crashing waves of the ocean and sounds of sea lions nearby. A gorgeous spot with afternoons on the porch overlooking the breath taking views. This is such a special place. Phil was so helpful and accommodated our large group of hikers so well. Very comfortable and clean with a small kitchen area. Perfect setting for some California dreaming.....a definite recommendation for friends and family....and I will be back someday.

Located right on the breathtaking Pacific, this small hotel is great. The Inn has comfortable clean rooms with balconies facing the pounding surf. The staff was very accommodating to our group and we had a wonderful weekend. Hiking nearby is first-class. Discover the "Lost Coast"!

We have never before stayed in a place with such a stunning ocean-view from our room. Our rooms were big and in excellent condition, newly renovated and very clean. We look forward to come back to this fantastic place.

This was a fabulous weekend trip. We stayed in a corner- jacuzzi room which had a spectacular view of the ocean. The room was very clean with up-to-date furniture and a very comfortable king bed. The hotel staff were friendly and very accommodating. I would genuinely recommend this hotel for a nice, romantic get-away. The Cove Restaurant is a nice place for dinner as well. The food options on Shelter Cove are limited, so it was great to have a good place to eat that was in our hotel

Truly the "Lost Coast," getting to this little town is a journey. It's at the end of a scenic, windy mountain road about 24 miles and 45 minutes from the highway. Getting to the Oceanfront Inn is the reward. It's not formal, it's not fussy, and the view is gorgeous.

With under 10 rooms, the Oceanfront Inn is tiny and quiet. All rooms have balconies overlooking the water, and the rocky beach is accessible by a set of stairs on the property. We were glad we booked a jacuzzi king because our corner room had big windows on two sides, showcasing the view. The room was freshly painted and recently renovated. There is also a 1-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, terrace, and sofa bed. The innkeeper lives on the premises, and he, his dogs, and the housekeeper are the full complement of staff.

The Cove Restaurant downstairs is one of a couple of restaurants in town and serves fish, steak, and pasta. Service is slow, but where are you going after dinner, anyway? No breakfast or lunch. Either pack in your own, shop in the general store or visit the nearby crepe cart (too cold while we were there for al fresco dining).

Room Tip: corner rooms on the north side have the best views.

I really enjoyed our stay. The rooms facing the ocean have balconies with panoramic views, fantastic location. Our room was so clean and neat. Our housekeeper Marina who is such a sweetheart, so friendly and helpful. We'll definitely come back and stay here again.

Great rates. Clean rooms. Very nice rooms. Our balcony practically hangs over the ocean. It is great and safe and clean. The restaurant is really good and the live music was fabulous.

We traveled to Shelter Cove during a week long 30th wedding anniversary celebration the second week of October. Our timing was perfect - no crowds and the weather was amazing. The Oceanfrontinn was very quiet, clean and reasonably priced. The front desk clerk was very helpful and nice! We stayed two nights and left the sliding glass doors open both nights - being right on the ocean was amazing! Ate at The Cove restaurant the first night- had the lobster dinner - VERY good. The service was good but the waitstaff seemed a bit overworked or busy, not a lot of smiles or fast service but we enjoyed the good food and we weren't in a hurry anyway. The second day we ate at the Chart Room further down the road. The food was very good and we enjoyed the company of the charming (and interesting) couple who own the restaurant. When we go back to Shelter Cove we will stay at the Oceanfront Inn - be sure to stay in one of the rooms on the very top floor, you'll be happy you did!!

What a fabulous place. I had a few questions and so I didn't mind calling to discuss, get the rates and reserve the "Captains Quarters," jacuzzi room.

I'm happy I picked the Oceanfront Inn.

My husband and I had the privilege of staying a full week at this lovely inn. It was the best vacation we had ever taken. No rush, no fuss. This will be an annual stop for us for sure. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs to just slow down. I didn't even know how bad I needed the rest, and rest we did. Thanks for the wonderful week. See you next year.

My husband and I wandered into Shelter Cove and stumbled across this inn... we were in luck. The 1 bedroom full kitchen was available and we enjoyed two blissful days and nights there, perched at the top of the bluff overlooking a glassy ocean. Lovely place, quiet, reasonable, clean! We'll be back.

Just wanted to let you know what a fantastically great time my sisters and Mom had at your place. Jeanine is from Chicago and just could not get enough of the area. They all three enjoyed every minute, as I did. It was very difficult to leave. This was really a very special time for all of us!
Thank you so much !!!!!

Jack - 8-10-08
Thanks for all the fantastic accommodations at your beautiful oceanfront setting.

Really nice to have 24 hour beach access with the stairway to the beach. The room was clean and beautifully furnished. we enjoyed the cove restaurant on premises and the musician was great. We will be back!!!

Laureen and Mark - 5-30-08
This was one of our best vacations yet!! Beautiful panoramic view of the ocean.
Nicely decorated room. The only thing it needed to make it a 5 star hotel was porcelain coffee cups and glass drinking glasses. lol
Very secluded. Just what we were looking for.

Matt & Jean - 5-21-08
What a fantastic jacuzzi room we had, ocean 20 ft away, unbelievable food here at the cove restaurant. we enjoyed the direct access to the beach using the stairway.
it doesn't get any better, we travel a lot and this is the best place we have found yet!!!
